Hundreds of workers and employees of Qaumi Jute Mill brought out a procession in Siranganj town yesterday protesting the alleged government move to close the mill.

This was part of a programme undertaken by the Qaumi Jute Mill Rakkha Commettee (committee to protect qaumi jute mill).

The processionists chanted various anti-government slogans and marched different streets, starting from the Bazar Station.

Earlier, they held a rally where the speakers said five thousand people will lose jobs if the mill is closed.

The committee's programme includes street corner meetings on August 17, human chain in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on August 18, token hunger strike on August 22, public meeting in front of Bazaar Station on August 24 and a 'mass procession' on August 27.

The committee will call a hartal in Siranganj on August 28 if the move to stop the mill is not stopped, according to leaders of the committee.
