Four CPA officials sent to jail in graft case
Court sources said Judge Fazlul Karim rejected the bail prayers of assistant traffic managers Motahar Uddin and Khaled Parvez Khan, and traffic officers Liakat Hossain Bhuiyan and Sirajul Islam after the hearing.
The four officials, along with five others, were chargesheeted in January for helping the importers evade government tax amounting to Tk 4.50 crore.
Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed the case against nine officials of the Traffic Department of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) on December 31, 2001.
The CPA suspended all the nine from their jobs.
Earlier, the High Court granted bail to the nine accused till August 12.
Of the nine, the four CPA officials appeared before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge court on Tuesday and the court had fixed the hearing of their bail petitions the following day.
