Banks in Magura lack equipment to detect fake notes though their circulation is increasing, sources said.

Police officials said, a strong gang is engaged in making fake notes and supplying those even in south-western districts.

Fake notes are detected during transaction even in shops in villages, they said.

Police recently arrested three persons and recovered 184 fake notes of Tk 500 denomination from Speepur upazila headquarters.

The arrested persons are Molam Hossain, Abdus Salam and Sabur Khan. Two of them were from Jessore.

Police arrested six others with counterfeit notes from different areas of the district.

Bank officials said there are nine branches of nationalised commercial banks and one branch of a private commercial bank in Magura. Among them only one branch of Pubali Bank has equipment to detect fake note.

They said use of money tester is essential for all banks and we have written to higher authorities in this regard.
