Chargesheeted accused Shukur arrested

Shukur Hossain, one of the chargesheeted accused in Janakantho journalist Shamsur Rahman murder case, was arrested along with two of his accomplices Thursday evening from a house at Noepara under Abhoynagar thana in Jessore.

Police recovered from his possession two Indian revolvers and 150 bottles of phensidyl.

His two associates are Jahangir and Anwar. Mamtaz Begum, wife of Anwar, has also been taken to custody for questioning.

According to police, Shukur, who first shot at Shamsur Rahman, came out of Jessore Central Jail on bail in January.

He was involved in planning another killing along with Pagla Selim, the prime accused in Shamsur Rahman murder case.

Abhoynagar thana officer-in-charge said Pagla Selim and Shukur were hiding in the house of drug trafficker Anwar with arms and ammunition to kill a businessmen.

Police refused to divulge the name of the businessman for the sake of investigation.

Police said Shukur and Pagla Selim went to India last month to buy arms. They are involved in both arms and drug trade, police said.
