AL-BNP clash leaves 25 hurt in Magura

At least 25 people were injured, eight of them seriously, in a clash between the activists of ruling BNP and opposition Awami League (AL) at village Barashia in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.

Seriously injured were identified as Osman, 32, Kuti Mian, 15, Abu Bakar Biswas, 45, Esem Ali, 30, Rabiul Islam, 30, Mohammad Atik, 25, and Zamirul Hossain, 35. They were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital while another seriously hurt AL leader Shahidul Molla took treatment at a local clinic.

The feuding groups used lethal weapons during the clash.

Police and locals said supporters of the organising secretary of the Sadar thana unit of AL Shahidul Molla and local BNP leader and union parishad (UP) member Lavlu Biswas clashed over establishment of supremacy in the area.

On information, Sadar thana police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police arrested three persons from the spot.

However, no case was lodged till filing of this report at 1-45 pm yesterday.
