4 Pirates caught by people in Bhola
Four alleged pirates were caught by people at Mirzakalu Bazar in Charfession upazila while they were selling goods looted from fishermen.
The pirates -- Md. Fazlu, Amzad, Yusuf and Aminul--were handed over to SI Shahidul Islam of Borhanuddin thana but police tried to release them, it was alleged.
The goods including nets and other fishing equipment were earlier looted from two trawlers from the Meghna near Natun Char in Mirzakalu Wednesday night, local people claimed.
Some local people led by local Union Parishad Chairman Jasim informed higher police officials. Borhanuddin thana then arrested the pirates and lodged a case.
Five policemen were arrested by the Navy during its operation against pirates on the Meghna last month. The policemen were allegedly collecting tools from fishermen in association with pirates.
