Six rapists get life in Faridpur

The convicted persons are Humayun, Ibrahim, Maniruzzaman Khan Manir, Imrul, Shahabuddin and Kamal on charge of rape while another accused Osman was acquitted for want of evidence.

Imrul, Shahabuddin and Kamal were tried in absentia. Tribunal judge Afzal Hossain also fined Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer rigorous imprisonment (RI) for another one year.

The convicts broke open the house of Siddik Molla on the night of April 9, 2002 for committing armed robbery at village Panigati of Alfadanga upazila. At one stage the bandits kidnapped housewife Anguri Begum, 22, and gangraped her in a nearby paddy field. The culprits also committed docoity at the village on the same night and killed a female inmate, according to the court proceedings.
