Diarrhoea claims 4 more in Gaibandha

The dead are Monju Rani, 21, of Fulchari upazila and Saiful, 22, Marjina, 40, and Sonali, 4, of Sunderganj upazila

The Gaibandha Sadar, Sunderganj, Fulchari, Shaghata and Sadullapur upazilas are the worst affected areas.

Every day, patients are being admitted to the health complex in the upazilas.

Many patients this correspondent talked to alleged that they were not getting saline and other drugs at hospitals.

When contacted, Gaibandha Civil Surgeon Abdul Quddus admitted scarcity of IV saline in the district. He said he has faxed a message to higher authorities for emergency supply of saline and drugs

"We collected only 100 bags of IV saline under individual arrangement on Monday to face the emergency but much more is needed", he said.
