Clash over control of fishing zone in Meghna: 7 missing, 50 injured

At least seven persons were missing and over 50 others injured and in a clash on Sunday between the two groups of fishermen over control of fishing zone at Meghna estuary in Banger Char under Daulatkhan police station in Bhola district.

Victims, eyewitness and police sources said about 200 fishermen of Abu Sayed Majhi and Nure Alam Mahji groups armed with lethal weapons locked in the clash on Sunday which continued for two hours.

Of them, critically injured Mahbubur Rahman,45, Shah Alam,30, Jahangir,30, Kamal,32, Alauddin,13, Maksu,16, Abu Sayed,20, Mutasin,40, Lokman,28, Labu,20, Mannan, 35, Mannan Majhi, 40, Abdullah,25, Jasim,28, Rafiqul Islam,35, Manju, 30, Shahjajahan,28, Babul,31, Nur Islam,37, are under treatment at Daulatkhan hospital.

Hospital sources said 47 more injured persons received treatment from the hospital, but released due to accommodation problem.

The injured fishermen said at least seven of them named Ibrahim,25, Kabir,27, Sumon,34, Barek,28, of Sayed group and Jaldas,29, Khetilal,48, and Rahim,31, of Nur Majhi group are missing.

Anxious relatives are thronging the hospital and the river bank in search of their near ones.
