Life for AL leader for abduction, rape
An Awami League (AL) leader was sentenced to life term imprisonment by a court here on charge of abduction and rape of a tender aged girl on October 29.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, Netrakona convicted Shamsul Haque Sanju, an AL leader of village Madanpur under Sadar upazila.
The court also fined the culprit Tk 5,000, in dafault, to suffer six months more in prison.
Sanju abducted Abala Khatun, 13, of village Basati under Atpara upazila on February 21 in 2000 when she was returning home. The convict confined her for five months at his home and raped her.
Abala's mother filed a case with Netrakona Police Station accusing five persons in including Sanju Mia.
The Judge sentenced Sanju Mia while four others were acquitted.
