Govt stalled probe into Manzurul Imam murder, Khulna AL alleges

Khulna district and city Awami League leaders have again blamed the government for taking no interest to reveal the real motive behind the murder of advocate Manzurul Imam and to arrest killers and the masterminds.

The city AL president was gunned down on August 25 near his residence at Shamsur Rahman Road.

His eldest son Abdullah AL Mamun lodged a without naming any accused.

Police arrested 12 persons including Purba Bangla Communist Party (PBCP) cadre Shukur Ghazi who confessed to his involvement in the murder to a First Class Magistrate of the metropolitan court.

Out of the 12, only three including Shukur have been shown arrested in the murder case.

In course of investigation by IO Zahid Hossain of Khulna thana, the case was transferred to DB. But the DB made no progress in investigation though the home ministry monitoring cell is supervising it.

None of the six persons named by Shukur as killers and masterminds has so far been arrested by the DB.

District AL President Sheikh Haroon-or-Rashid threatened of "dire consequences" for "stalling" investigation of the murder case after it was transferred to DB.

Acting president of city AL Sheikh Yunus Ali told this correspondent fate of the case is uncertain due to lack of sincerity of the government.

Refuting the AL allegation, Khulna city BNP secretary Nazrul Islam Manjur said Manjurul Imam's murder has proved that life of political leaders is not secure. He demanded immediate arrest of killers to reveal the motive of the murder.
