Rival factions in Kolaroa sue each other after clashes

The internal feud in Kalaroa Upazila Awami League has surfaced as the two rival factions have filed cases accusing each other following clashes on October 25 and 26 over holding of a party conference.

The clashes at the upazila headquarter took place as one faction attacked the conference of Keral Kata union AL on October 24, calling it unconstitutional.

The rival factions led by Union Parishad chairman Abdul Hamid and former chairman Firoz Ahmed also clashed on the following two days, leaving at least 20 injured.

Kalarau Upazila AL is now virtually divided into two groups over convening of the Keral Kata union conference. One group is led by former thana AL president BM Nazrul Islam, also an ex-MP. The other is led by thana AL convener Sajedur Rahman Khan chowdhury.

Abdul Hamid is loyal to Nazrul Islam and Firoz Ahmed enjoys the blessing of Sajedur Rahman.

Sajedur Rahman and 10 others have been accused in one case filed by persons loyal to Nazrul Islam.

Sajedur Rahman also filed a case accusing 21 people including Nazurl Islam.
