Highway blocked as police beat shopkeeper
Shopkeepers, joined by Chhatro Dal and Jubo Dal activists blocked the Lamonirhat-Burimai high way for about two hours on Tuesday protesting alleged police beating of two traders at the Misson square in the town.
The injured traders -- Humayun Kabir and Salam Mia were admitted to a local clinic following the beating allegedly by Constable Mozammel Haq.
It was alleged that the on-duty policeman was sitting on a bench in front of a shop. As the shop owner asked him to vacate the bench, he became angry and beat the two traders with the butt of his gun.
The constable was suspended on orders from the Police Superintendent, police sources said.
