Top outlaw leader Biswajit arrested
A contingent of police in civil dress stopped the bus at Kashimnagar in Kapilmuni union under Paikgacha thana and caught him.
Tk 18,500 and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.
He has been taken on seven days' remand and is being interrogated by a special team of police officials led by Additional Police Superintendent Mofazzel Hossain, sources said.
The team is trying to gather information about NBCP's illegal arms and ammunition and other outlaws including ringleader Mrinal who is one of the most wanted criminals in the south western region.
Son of Gopal Chandra Roy, Biswajit is the third-in-command of NBCP headed by Monoranjon Goshai alias Mrinal.
According to OC of Paikgacha thana, Biswajit was wanted in 12 murder cases and some other criminal cases including rape, extortion and abduction for ransom.
He is the 'custodian' of arms and ammunition of NBCP, according to a confession by Debprashad Debu, arrested from Khulna City in August.
There are murder and criminal cases against biswajit also with Dumuria and Tala police stations, said the Additional SP, who is staying at Paikgacha to interrogate him.
All police stations and camps, particularly in Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts have been put on high alert following the arrest of Biswajit who threatened to blow up Dumuria thana after NBCP second-in-command Debu was arrested.
