GM says union office captured by "outsider terrorists": Jamaat leader says,"We were invited by aggrieved workers"

Supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mia Golam Quddus, younger brother of Mia Golam Parwar MP, captured the workers' union office at Jute Spinners Mill, Shiromoni, Saturday morning in presence of city BNP leader Iqbal Hossain and police.

General Manager of the mill, AKM Shamsur Rahman, in a press release yesterday said that "outsider terrorists" led by Golam Quddus captured the office by breaking the lock and violating Section 144 in presence of police.

Three persons were injured in a clash between pro-Jamaat and anti-Jamaat men soon after capture of the union office, he said.

Section 144 was imposed there last month. The violence was quelled after police reinforcement.

Golam Parwar was elected from Khulna-5 (Phultala-Dumuria) constituency.

Production in the mill remained suspended since 10.30 am Saturday . Extra security forces have been deployed there.

Golam Kuddus at a press conference in the city yesterday said, "We were invited by aggrieved workers to go to the mill to resolve disputes".

When contact Saturday night, Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Golam Parwar MP said, "I can not see from Dhaka what is being done by my brother in Khulna".

Mia Golam Quddus was not available for his comments.

Leaders of workers' union of Aleem Jute Mill, Eastern Jute Mill, Ajax Jute Mill, Sonali Jute Mill, Crescent Jute Mill and Peoples Jute Mill, President of Bangladesh Mukto Sramik Federation and General Secretary of Jute Spinners Workers Union have strongly condemned the "vandalism" by the Jamaat MP's younger brother.

They have vowed to give a "befitting reply to the illegal occupants if they do not back out".
