Tesh Foundation, a local NGO, played a laudable role in helping poor housewife Rehena Khatun go back to husband's house.

Rehena Khatun, 22, daughter of a daylabourer Lutfor Rahman of Deara village in Kalaroa upazila was married to Shafequl Islam of Jahanpur village in Keshabpur in Jessore three years ago.

They were a happy couple. But misfortune befell Rehena when she became pregnant. One day, her husband fled home leaving her due to poverty. Finding no alternative, she came back to her parents' house, hoping that her husband would return home.

When she was at an advanced stage, her father took her to Kalaroa Health Complex. She gave birth to twins. Days later, the twins became sick. Their legs became infected from injuries suffered during pushing of saline, she later told this correspondent. They were not well treated at the health complex.

Hearing the plight of poor Rehena, JESH Foundation came forward. Two if its staff--Miss Laz and Miss Maskura-- brought the mother and the twins--Parul and Bahadur-- to its 'shelter home' at Kolaroa, set up as a temporary shelter for oppressed and destitute women.

As the condition of the twins deteriorated, they were taken to Satkhira hospital and treated.

Meanwhile the two Foundation staff traced her husband out. They made him understand his mistake. The happy couple went home with their babies.
