Bogra hospitals lack doctors, facilities

Fifty-four posts of doctor out of 187 and 243 posts of health assistant out of 550 at government hospitals in the district are vacant for long.

Sources at the Civil Surgeon's office told this correspondent yesterday that shortage of doctors and other facilities is hampering treatment.

There are 62 hospitals and clinics in Bogra, including the Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital and ten upazala health complexes for over 30 lack people

The shortage of doctors and other facilities has been reported to the Director General (DG) of Health in Dhaka and to the Ministry of Health several times, but to no effect, they said.

At lest seven ambulances out of 17 at the government hospitals are out of order for years.

At Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital, two out of four ambulances and two out of four X-ray machines are inoperative.

There is no X-ray machine in Shaibjang and Shairpur upazila health complexes while those at Shariankindi, Gobtali Adamdigi, Dhanut and Nandigram upazila hospitals are out of order.
