Moni Mela concludes
The fair began on December 31 on the promises of the Tonk Monument, a monument built at the historic place where Moni Singh had launched the Hajong movement for land right of tribesmen.
The entire area wore a festive look during the Mela. Besides discussion meetings on Moni Singh, traditional jari (chorus) songs, cultural functions, lathi khela (mock fight with clubs) and religious songs were arranged.
A display of traditional handicrafts drew the visitors' attention.
Kumudini Hajong, an associate of Moni Singh and leader of the Hajong tribesmen, inaugurated the Mela.
Veteran political leaders including CPB (Communist Party of Bangladesh) President Manjurul Ahsan Khan, Awami League Presidium member Jillur Rahman, Workers Party General Secretary Bimol Biswash, Gonotontri Party President Azizul Islam Khan, local lawmaker and president of Netrakona BNP MA Karim Abbasi took part in the discussion.
They said Moni Singh was a national leader and his birth and death anniversaries should be observed officially.
The discussion was presided over by Durga Proshad Tawary.
