Freedom fighter, NAP leader cremated without due honour
He was 65. He left behind his wife, one son, three daughters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
A loveable person, Santosh Kumar was known for his political honesty, conviction and dedication.
He was elected vice president of Barisal Bar three times. All courts were adjourned yesterday (Monday) as a mark of respect to him.
The body was cremated at Barisal Maha Samshan Ghat without any state honour, due to a freedom fighter.
Nurul Alam Farid, joint convener of the district Muktijoddha Sangshad, said state honour was not given as his name was not included in the freedom fighters' list prepared by the BNP-led alliance government.
Leaders of Barisal Bar, Awami League, NAP, Gano Forum, Puja Udjapon Parishad, Hindu Buddha Christian Oikka Parishad, Udichi and other socio- cultural and religious organisations condoled his death and expressed sympathy with members of the bereaved family.
