Tk 87.20 cr drainage project work begins in Kushtia

The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has taken up a Tk 87.20 cr drainage project at Amla in Kushtia

The project has been aimed at increasing crop production by removal of water stagnation in Sagarkhali and Barabila basins under the GK irrigation project.

Water resources minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed opened the construction work of the Sagarkhali-Brabila Drainage Project at Sagarkhali on Sunday.

A total of 42 hectares of land in Daulatpur, Bhemara and Mirpur in Kushtia and Sreepur and Sadar upazila in Magura have been brought under the project. The total cultivable land under the project is 33, 400 hectares.

On completion of the project an additional 2.8 lakh metric tons (MTs) of crops will be produced every year benefiting 10 lakh people.

Prof Shahidul Islam, MP, Principal Shohrab Uddin, MP, Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi, MP, former MP Abdur Rauf Chowdhury, BWDB DG and Chief Engineer and leaders of BNP and its front organisations were present.
