10 rescued from captors in Sundarbans handed over to relatives

Ten Bangladeshi tourists rescued by Joint Forces from abductors in the Sundarbans on Monday were handed over to their relatives yesterday in presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police Aziz Sarkar and SP Rafiqul Islam.

They were abducted by members of notorious Kalu Bahini led by Majibar Rahman alias Kalu and Tk 25 lakh ransom was demanded.

The gang leader, Kalu, fatally injured in the firefight with law enforcers, died at Shyamnagar Health Complex.

Three of his accomplices-- Asad Gazi, and Anarul Islam of Mathbar village in Koira upazila in Khulna and Abdul Majid of Bardal village in Assasumi upazila in Satkhira are now being treated at the hospital, sources said.

One rifle, one piston, some bullets and five bombs were recovered during operation, led by Capt. Salahuddin of BDR and Shyamnagar thana OC Kamruzzaman.

The rescued youths are Zahidu, Aman, Biplab, Bashar, Deba Bratu, Samir Biswas, Alamgir Kabir Bukul, , Khalilur Rahman, Shahiduzzaman, Ashok Das, Abdur Rashid, Sahinur Rahman, Hafizur, Baharam Sarder, and Abdul Jalil, all from Satkhira Sadar upazila.
