2 'dacoits' lynched in Jhalakathi

Two alleged dacoits were lynched at Saichalapur in Gaabkhan Dhanshiri union in Jhalakati district on Monday.

The mob also gouged the eyes of Rustam Ali of Ranapasha in Nalchhity upazila and Nur Hossain of Sangur in Razapur upazila.

Police and local people said a gang of dacoits on abroad a trawler attacked a cargo trawler at Naptar Hat near Jhalakati town and tied its crew and businessmen passengers who were going to Patuakhali from Jhalakati with merchandise.

Hearing screams, farmers ran from nearby fields and chased the dacoits. All but two fled away.

The angry people caught them, gouged their eyes and lynched them.

Manir Hossain Howlader, chairman of Gaabkhan Dhanshiri Union Parishad later claimed that the two were professional dacoits and killers, facing many cases.

Abdur Rashid, owner of the cargo trawler filed a case with Jhalakati Sadar thana.

When contacted, Jhalakati Police Superintendent Hemayet Hossain said a police team was sent to the spot for investigation and the bodies were sent to Jhalakati hospital morgue for autopsy.
