Transport strike in Barisal
Buses are however plying routes within the district.
Barisal Bus Owners and Workers Associations at a meeting Monday evening decided the action programme.
Leaders of the association alleged that some BNP activists assaulted some bus workers at Muladi in presence of local lawmaker Mosarraf Hossain Mongu at about noon on Sunday.
Ticket counter clerk Yusuf was injured in the attack led by Humaun, nephew of the MP, they alleged.
On the same day in the afternoon, ruling party activists attacked and injured four transport workers including bus driver Subash at Mirganj ferry terminal in presence of the MP, they alleged.
Condemning the incidents, the Monday's meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner for punishment of the attackers.
Mongu later told local journalists that he heard that some people assaulted lessees of the ferry terminal for collecting tolls at higher rates. He denied that any of the incidents took place in his presence.
He said transport owners became unhappy after Muladi Municipality Chairman Abdus Sattar Khan issued a letter on January 3 for checking fitness certificates of transports, he added.
