Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Azadur Rahman Mallik,issued an official announcement following a decision of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives.

The UNO informed local journalists that the elected members of Munshibazar UP brought charges of misappropriation of fund, corruption and various irregularities against the union chairman Md Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury in July last. He is also a leader of Kamalganj upazila BNP.

Nine out of 13 UP members expressed their no-confidence through secret ballot. Former UNO suspended the chairman temporarily and forwarded the matter to the LGRD Ministry for approval of the non-confidence motion.

After four months approved the no-confidence motion and declared the post of chairman vacant.

Meanwhile, the removed chairman will file a writ petition with the High Court challenging the ministry's decision.
