A memorable day for children
Hundreds of children aged 9-14 took to the streets of the district town with colourful banners, festoons and placards on Thursday. The slogan was "Say YES for Children."
It was arranged to make people aware about children's rights.
State Minister for Fish and Livestock Resources Al-haj Advocate Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan; Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Brahmanabaria Md Younusur Rahman, Superintendent of Police (SP) ATM Tarek, Deputy Director of Mass Communication Department, Dhaka Ferdausi Begum, Divisional Chief of UNICEF, Chittagong division MD, Alamgir Bhuiyan, Project Coordinator of Comilla-Brahmanbari' region of UNICEF Naira Begum, ADC (Rev) Muhammad Mustafa, ADC (general) Mia Abdulla Mamun and District Information Officer Md Shahjahan led the procession.
The colourful procession was brought out as part of three- day long 'Children's Fair' organised by the District Information Office. District administration and UNICEF jointly assisted the programme which began on January 15 and ended on January 17.
When the colourful procession of children passed by people of different ages lined up to express their solidarity with them.
Dulal Mia, a librarian of a roadside book shop said he saw such kind of processions in Brahmanbaria for the first time during his life time.
After the procession all the children converged inside a big pandel at Poura Mukta Mancha where at least more 1,000 children including guardians, teachers, political leaders and elite were waiting to meet them.
At 11 am on the day, State Minister Advocate Abdus Sattar Buiyan opened the children's fair as the chief guest while Brahmanbaria DC Md Younusur Rahman was in the chair.
The opening session was addressed, among others, by SP ATM Tarek, ADC (Rev) Muhammad Mostafa, DD of Mass Communication Department , Dhaka Ferdousi Begum, Divisional Chief of UNICEF, Chittagong division Md Alamgir Buiyan.
The convenor of the fair, ADC (General ) Mia Abdullah Mamun, member secretary of the fair, District Infromation Officer Md Shajahan and District Secretary of BNP Brahmanbaria unit Al-haj Syed Emranur Reza also addressed there.
Twenty-four stalls were erected by children of different institutes. Puppet dance was arranged and arrangement was made to examine contaminated water. Various competitions were also arranged for children.
