Rajshahi newsmen get united after Manik's death
The divided journalists united in a single platform and formed a 23-member committee unanimously for the purpose of floating a single organisation.
There are three press clubs in Rajshahi.
After the killing of Manik Saha, all the journalists irrespective of opinions formed the Rajshahi Journalists' Society and chalked out a four-day mourning and protest programme.
While addressing a rally at Shaheb Bazaar, speakers stressed the need for unification and met at the Rajshahi Press Club building to form the committee.
Senior journalist and the Rajshahi bureau chief of Daily Ittefaq Shah Anisur Rahman and the Dinkal bureau chief Abdus Sabur were made conveynor and member secretary of the committee.
The joint convenors include Daily Sonali Sangbad Editor Liaquat Ali, Dainik Barta Editor SM Abdul Quader, Sonar Desh Editor Abul Hossain Malek and Weekly Uttar Janapad Editor Abdullah Al Mamun.
The members include Metropolitan Press Club president Dr Dayem Uddin, general secretary Hasan Millat, City Press Club president Dr Najib Wadud, general secretary Md Zulfiqur, Rajshahi Press Club acting president Anu Mustafa, general secretary Saidur Rahman, Rajshahi Union of Journalists (Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury) president Mustafizur Rahman Khan, RUJ (Gias Kamal Chowdhury) president Rezaul Karim Raju, Rajshahi Women Journalists' Association president Manjuara Khatun, Jatiya Shangbadik Shanstha president Rafiqul Hasan and Rajshahi Photojournalists' Association president Shahadat Hossain Badsha.
