This correspondent visited Paitong, Fhansiakhali and Kumari area in Lama upazilla, Chaikhong of Alikadam and Kachhaptali of Roangchari and saw that the stones are being extracted in large scale by dishonest persons.

Local sources told, Jhum field and rural roads are also being damaged due to unplanned extraction of stone from the hilly land and beside hilly springs. As a result, cultivable land is being reduced day by day. Rivers and canals are also silted because of this phenomenon.

Extracted stones are being piled up on the Ruma-Bandarban road in Bandarban Municipality before the law enforcing agency personnel.

The local road division authorities told this correspondent that the roads are being damaged due to plying of overloaded trucks with extracted stones. They urged the local administration to take action against these people, but no action were taken as yet, the Road Division authorities added.

A personnel of stone businessmen told, they maintained this business legally with take permit from local administration. But a source of adminsitration told, stone permit issued in favor of landowner only, not for Middlemen or Business personnel, If anybody violates this rules and system, necessary action must be taken against them.

But local people clamed, those who have no land, they are mainly getting permit from authority and extracting stone from lands of tribal peoples forcefully.
