'Scrap all Sylhet JCD bodies'
The party committees for the city and other units were formed early this month. Those were reconstituted on January 23 following massive protests by the rank and file.
But little changes have been made in the reconstituted committees, party sources say.
A strong resentment is prevailing in the rank and file since reconstitution of the committees.
JCD, student front of ruling BNP, held rallies at the Central Shahid Minar and at the Court Point in the city.
Chanting various slogans, the activists said except a very few, most of the committees still include non-students, persons wanted in criminal cases, convicts, drug addicts and peddlers.
Soon after formation of the committees early this month, protests were made at MC college, Sylhet Sarkari College, Madan Mohan College and Sylhet Law College in the city and at Jakiganj, Gowainghat, Golapganj upazila headquarters.
Two activists were hurt in armed clashes between rivals, marked with gunshots.
Amid protests, the central JCD called presidents and secretaries of all the bodies to Dhaka on 12 January. Announcement of reconstituted bodies followed that.
Speakers at the Shahid Minar rally vowed to "free JCD from the clutches of devils".
At the Court Point rally with Jahir Shah Tuhin in the chair, the speakers alleged that leaders of the district and the city units are destroying the student front for their own interests.
They said agitation will continue till scrapping of the new bodies. They also called upon the central JCD to save their organisation in Sylhet from ruination.
They claimed that persons who could not pass the SSC examination have been given key positions in the new bodies.
Some of the so-called leaders are in jail, they alleged.
