Launch dacoity on Meghna in B'baria
One of the policemen, Constable Sukumer, stabbed during the incident, was missing till yesterday afternoon.
Two of the policemen--Constables Jane Alem and Mni Chakma-- swam shore and Havilder Abdul Matin was rescued by fishermen later.
Habilder Abdul Matin and Constable Jane Alam are being treated at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Mni Chakma was released after first aid.
The dacoits looted at least Tk five lakh in cash and valuables, police said quoting the ill-fated passengers.
They said the dacoits numbering over 20 had boarded the Bhairab-bound launch from Nabinagar in the guise of passengers.
As it reached Lalpur, they swooped on the policemen and passengers.
As they were looting the passengers on gunpoint, a speedboat approached the launch. The dacoits finished their the looting and fled away in the speedboat.
Police said the looted firearms could not be recovered. Additional District Magistrate Muhammed Hanif visited the injured policemen at the hospital Tuesday night.
Brahmanbaria Police Superintendent ATM Tarek and ASP Jahangir Alam were at the spot when the report was filed at about noon yesterday.
