Akhaura shrine blasts: 2 confess to involvement

Two suspected bombers of Akhaura shrine blasts yesterday confessed to their involvement in the incident that killed one person and injured over 100 on August 12.

According to Detective Branch (DB) police sources, a team of police headed by DB OC ANM Yeahiya arrested Muhammad Sarker, 30, and Ershad Mia, 38, from their villages in Akhaura upazila on Sunday.

During interrogation, they confessed that they along with a gang hurled bombs at Akhaura Peer Kalla Shaheed Mazar on Agust 12. They gave their statement under Section 161 to police.

One person was killed and more than 100 were injured when a series of bombs exploded at the shrine.

A case has been filed and IO Yeahiya is investigating the case.
