Some of the forthcoming big-budget movies include “Mission Extreme,” “Bidrohi”, “Antaratma”, “Operation Sundarban”, “Adventure of Sundarban”, “Shaan”, “Bikkhob”, “Jinn”, “Hawa” “Paap Punno”, “Poran”, and “Damaal” among others. These films involve investments of nearly BDT 100 crores.

No new films were released across the country during Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul-Azha, last year. Film directors and producers are facing difficulties this year as well.

India has announced a new national-level film award in memory of renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The decision to institute the award was taken at a meeting India’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had with the film fraternity of West Bengal in Kolkata, on Monday.

“Prem Puran”, a short film directed by young filmmaker Zahid Gogon, is set to release tomorrow on the OTT platform Lagvelki. It is inspired by “The Gift of The Magi” by O' Henry, “Raincoat” by Rituparno Ghosh, “Bhanga Chora” by Zahir Raihan and some true stories of jute mill worker leader Shahid Tajul Islam, who demanded justice for workers in our country. The story is set in Dhaka, Pabna and Kushtia.

“Makeup”, a film directed by Anonno Mamun with Tariq Anam Khan, Ziaul Roshan and Nipa Ahmed Real in prominent roles, was previewed by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board recently. Subsequently, the board members decided to ban the film.

Noted actor Omar Sani has been elected president of Bangladesh Film Club Limited (BFCL) for 2021. The polls were held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on February 6. He emerged as the winner after getting 278 votes while his rival candidate Atiqur Rahman Liton got 158 votes.
