Govt to waive Tk 5.18 crore farm loans for 6,646 Bagerhat farmers

The agriculture department will also excavate 25 canals and plant 38,300 trees as part of wider initiatives to support local farmers

The government is set to waive agricultural loans amounting to Tk 5 crore 18 lakh 32 thousand and 593 for 6,646 farmers in Bagerhat.

Alongside the waiver, the agriculture department will excavate 48.55 kilometres across 25 canals and plant 38,300 trees to support the local farming community.

The details were disclosed during a press briefing this afternoon organised by the District Information Office.

The briefing focused on the implementation of the government’s election manifesto, which includes initiatives such as family cards, canal excavation, tree plantation, and farmer cards.

Speaking as the chief guest, Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten said the plans were rooted in the “Bangladesh First” philosophy.

He said the initiatives aimed to steer the country towards real development by ensuring employment, good governance, health, education, and food security.
