Deadline extended for appointing female director in listed firms

Star Business Report

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has extended the deadline for listed companies to appoint female independent directors to their boards until December 31, 2026.

The decision was announced in a notification issued yesterday.

Under the Corporate Governance Code 2018, all listed companies are required to appoint female independent directors to their boards. The regulator had earlier set December 31, 2025, as the deadline after issuing a series of notifications.

With the latest extension, listed companies will get one more year to comply with the requirement.

The BSEC has instructed the Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC to immediately inform concerned stakeholders about the decision.

Copies of the notification have also been sent to the Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC) and the commission’s relevant divisions for necessary action.
