Exports fall 12pc in July

Exports fell 12 percent year-on-year to $2.62 billion in July, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau.

Garment, the main export item, earned $2.22 billion in July, the first month of the fiscal year, compared to $2.52 billion in the previous year.

In July, knitwear products fetched $1.13 billion and woven received $1.09 billion.

In 2014-15, earnings from garment exports were $25.49 billion, compared to $24.49 billion a year ago.

The lower export earnings from the garment sector affected the overall earnings, according to industry insiders.
