Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) signed a partnership agreement with Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) to enhance toll collection efficiency and financial transparency.

Under the agreement, EBL will manage toll collection and deposit services for the newly inaugurated Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover, also known as the Chattogram Elevated Expressway, in the port city.

Md Nurul Karim, chairman of CDA, and Ali Reza Iftekhar, managing director and CEO of EBL, signed the agreement at Hotel Agrabad in Chattogram today, the bank said in a press release.

Speaking at the event, Karim said, "This collaboration with EBL will significantly enhance our toll management system, ensuring transparency and efficiency while contributing to Chattogram's overall urban development."

"It is a great opportunity to support CDA in streamlining toll collection through our banking expertise and digital solutions," Iftekhar said.

"This initiative underscores our commitment to advancing smart infrastructure and seamless financial services in Bangladesh," he added.

This collaboration represents a significant step in modernising Chattogram's transportation infrastructure and revenue management.

EBL will oversee daily toll collection from all active toll booths along the Elevated Expressway, stretching from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat International Airport.

The bank will ensure seamless deposits into CDA's designated EBL account, strengthening financial accountability and operational efficiency.

Additionally, EBL will introduce advanced digital toll collection solutions, developed in close coordination with CDA authorities, to meet the evolving needs of commuters, enhance convenience, minimise congestion, and optimise overall toll management.

Md Mahfuzur Rahman, project engineer of CDA, and Rabindra Chakma, secretary, were present.

M Khorshed Anowar, deputy managing director and head of retail and SME banking of the bank; Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, branch area head for Chattogram; and Sanjay Das, head of corporate business for Chattogram, along with senior officials from both organisations, were also present.
