IBA' s Team Khichuri, champion of HSBC-IBA's Business Case Competition 2023

The local competition featured 160 participants from universities across Bangladesh

Team Khichuri from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of the University of Dhaka has become champion of this year's "Business Case Competition 2023" organised by the HSBC Bangladesh in partnership with the IBA.

Team Navigators from the Bangladesh University of Professionals came up as the runners-up while Team Taking Over from the Faculty of Business Studies of the University of Dhaka stood second runner-up, the HSBC said in a statement.

The HSBC Bangladesh in partnership with the IBA recently organised the finale and award giving ceremony of the event.

Three teams from Bangladesh were selected as the champion, runners-up and second runner-up winners from a group of five finalist teams.

The qualifying teams consisted of students from the leading universities of Bangladesh.

At the finale, the participants were given a business case on food security and were asked to present their solutions and recommendations to the judges panel. 

This year, the local competition featured a total of 160 participants from universities all across Bangladesh.

The champion, runners-up and second runner-up winners received team development fund of Tk 200,000, Tk 100,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively.

The champion team consisted of Mohtasim Bin Habib, Mashrif Hasan Adib, Abir Ershad and Shubhashish Chakraborty.

The runners-up team had Farhan Israq Haque, Shahriar Zahid Mormo, Fayeza Fahmida and Raiyaan Ehab Shams.

Towsif-Ur-Rahman, Kazi Anika Arefin, Md Kawser Alam and Md Istiaz Uddin were in the first runner-up team. 

M Tofazzel Hossain Miah, principal secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, attended the event as the chief guest where Abu Farah Md Nasser, deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank graced the event as a special guest

Md Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, and Prof Mohammad A Momen, director of the IBA, also attended the programme.

The judging panel included Dr Anil Kumar Das, national consultant (programme) of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations; Uzma Chowdhury, CPA and director of Pran-RFL Group; Syed Javed Noor, deputy managing director ofIDLC Finance Limited, and Zahidul Islam, managing director of Bayer CropScience Ltd.

Commenting on the programme, HSBC Bangladesh CEO said, "The Business Case Competition gives an opportunity to showcase the promising youth of Bangladesh to the world and HSBC is proud to support their ambition of becoming competent leaders who will support a prosperous Bangladesh."

This year celebrates 10th anniversary of this initiative engaging with Next Gen so as to enhance their future skills and thereby accelerating the sustainable development of Bangladesh, he said.

The Business Case Competition  is a part of HSBC's flagship Future Skills activity in Asia Pacific, and aims to enhance university students' business skills and broaden their global perspectives by taking their education out of the classroom and into a live competition format, the bank said.

In addition to Bangladesh, the following HSBC markets in the Asia Pacific region are also conducting local business case competitions: Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Mauritius.

The winning team from Bangladesh will participate in the regional finale to be hosted in Hong Kong, where participants from the other countries will compete.
