Dhaka Bank, NSU launch co-branded Mastercard prepaid card for students

Dhaka Bank PLC, in collaboration with North South University (NSU), has launched the “Dhaka Bank-North South University Co-Branded Mastercard Spark Prepaid Card” aimed at encouraging responsible financial habits while providing students with a secure and convenient way to manage educational, digital and lifestyle-related expenses.

The card is tailored exclusively for eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students of the university. Osman Ershad Faiz, managing director of Dhaka Bank, inaugurated the card in Dhaka recently, according to a press release.

Speaking at the event, Osman highlighted the importance of investing in young talent and creating opportunities that bridge academic learning with practical industry experience.

He emphasised Dhaka Bank’s commitment to supporting the aspirations of young Bangladeshis through initiatives that encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, financial awareness and professional development.

Zakia Sultana, country manager for Bangladesh at Mastercard, said today’s students are digitally connected and ambitious, and increasingly looking for payment solutions that are secure, convenient and relevant to their everyday lives.

“Through this collaboration, Mastercard is enabling them to access valuable benefits across education, entertainment, mobility and lifestyle spending, while helping them build greater financial confidence,” she added.

The card offers a range of lifestyle benefits across categories, including travel, dining, education, fashion and technology, both in Bangladesh and internationally.

Cardholders can also access discounts and cashback offers across youth-focused categories, including online streaming platforms, entertainment, food delivery services and ride-sharing applications.

Md Mostaque Ahmed, deputy managing director of the bank; HM Mostafizur Rahman, head of retail business; Benajir Ahmed, member of the board of trustees of NSU Trust; Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of the university; and Jubaer Hossain, lead of merchant and commerce at Mastercard, were also present, along with other officials and representatives from both organisations.
