Sayedabad bus terminal to be modernised

The Dhaka South City Corporation has taken steps to modernise Sayedabad Bus Terminal by creating dedicated facilities for AC bus services to ease traffic congestion and improve passenger amenities.

The move follows concerns over congestion caused by AC bus counters operating on roads and outside the terminal.

A new terminal design has been prepared in consultation with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association.

A meeting on terminal management was held at Nagar Bhaban yesterday.

Under the plan, additional space will be allocated for AC bus servicing, passenger boarding and alighting, and related operations.

The building under construction at the site of the old motor garage will be expanded for AC bus counters, while the entrance to the area will be widened.

A parking shed and walkway will be built, and another counter shed will be constructed south of the Khulna divisional counter shed.

DSCC Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman said the bus owners’ association would submit a proposal to expedite the project, as the conventional tendering process would take time.
