AIUB joins global dialogue at AIFOD Winter Summit in Bangkok

The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) took part in the AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) Winter Summit, held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, from February 4 to February 6, 2026.

AIUB was represented by Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, Member of the Board of Trustees and former Vice Chancellor of AIUB, and Prof Dr Dip Nandi, Associate Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology.

The AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) brings together policymakers, academics, technologists and development practitioners to discuss equitable access to artificial intelligence. The summit in Bangkok focused on how developing countries can strengthen their role in building and governing AI systems.

A panel session titled “How Can Developing Countries Build AI That’s Truly Ours?” was moderated by Prof Dr Dip Nandi. The discussion addressed disparities in global AI development, including concerns that a small number of high-income countries currently control most existing AI models.

On the sidelines of the summit, Dr Carmen Z Lamagna and Prof Dr Dip Nandi met the founders of AIFOD to discuss potential academic collaboration. The discussion included ways to connect AI research with practical applications in developing countries.

Dr Lamagna shared an example from a university campus in Bangladesh serving around 15,000 students, where AI is used to predict short-term energy demand alongside solar energy production to improve energy management.

AIUB said its participation in the summit reflects its engagement in discussions on technology, research and artificial intelligence in developing societies.
