Cantonment Public College wins IUB–Drishti Chattogram inter-college debate
Chattogram Cantonment Public College has become champion of the two-day inter-college English debate competition “Game of Logic-2026”, organised by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and Drishti Chattogram, held on January 29–30, 2026, at the Chattogram Theatre Auditorium.
The competition was inaugurated on the first day by Ekushey Padak-winning journalist and poet Abul Momen as chief guest. Special guests included poet and playwright Abik Osman; Lima Choudhury, director of the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and International Relations of IUB; Shahnewaz Riton, divisional head of Channel One; and Mohammad Ali Shaheen, head of advocacy at EPSA, says a press release.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Masud Bokul, founder of Drishti Chattogram. Speakers included Munna Mazumdar, organising secretary of Drishti Chattogram, and journalist Mujibul Haque. The 18th edition of the competition saw participation from more than 300 students representing 18 educational institutions in Chattogram.
In his address, Abul Momen said individuals must cultivate a questioning mindset and develop the capacity to evaluate whether questions are being answered properly.
Lima Choudhury highlighted the importance of evidence-based debating, saying debate without accurate information is meaningless. She encouraged students to measure success by their contribution to society and to work for the well-being of others.
Following the inaugural session, a workshop was conducted by Tanmay Barua, former debater of Premier University, and Sayen Sadik Ishti, former debater of the University of Dhaka.
Participating institutions included Gunners English School, Halishahar Cantonment Public School and College, Chattogram Cantonment Public College, Ispahani Public School and College, Central Public School and College, Bangladesh Elementary School, Chittagong Grammar School, CIDAR International School, Presidency International School, Sanowara Islam Boys’ High School, Dr Khastagir Government Girls’ High School, and Government Muslim High School.
On the second day, Chattogram Cantonment Public College defeated Halishahar Cantonment Public School and College to secure the championship title. Fairuz Tafannum Nusaiba was named Debater of the Final for her performance in the final round, while Afnan Anjum Nidhi received the Debater of the Tournament award for consistent excellence throughout the competition.
The event was attended by Priyanka Dey, deputy director of AFAIR, IUB; Md Fuad Hosen, outreach officer of IUB; along with invited guests, teachers and students from various institutions.
