First death anniversary of Syed Manzur Elahi observed
The first death anniversary of Syed Manzur Elahi, a prominent industrialist and business leader in Bangladesh, was observed today.
Syed Manzur Elahi died on March 12 last year at Gleneagles Hospital at the age of 83.
He was widely known for his role in Bangladesh’s industrial development and financial sector.
Syed Manzur Elahi led Apex Footwear Limited and helped develop the company into a major footwear brand and exporter in the leather industry.
He was also involved in the establishment of financial institutions including Mutual Trust Bank and Pioneer Insurance Company Limited.
Syed Manzur Elahi served as an adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh in 1996 and 2001.
During that time, he oversaw ministries including communications, shipping, civil aviation and tourism, posts and telecommunications, and housing and public works.
He was the son of Sir Syed Nasim Ali, the chief justice of undivided Bengal.
Syed Manzur Elahi began his career at British American Tobacco before entering the leather industry in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area.
He was also associated with several institutions including East West University, Sunbeams School, Manusher Jonno Foundation, Freedom Foundation and the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.
Syed Manzur Elahi is remembered for his contributions to business, education and social development in Bangladesh.
