Prof Shamsad Mortuza appointed as VC of ULAB

Professor Dr Shamsad Mortuza has been appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification regarding his appointment on February 16, 2026. The appointment was made with the approval of the President of Bangladesh, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

Professor Mortuza is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Dhaka. He previously served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ULAB from 2018 to 2022 and also worked as a Special Adviser to the Board of Trustees.

He has been involved in teaching in English departments at different universities for more than three decades. He earned his PhD in English Literature from Birkbeck, University of London, and is a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Professor Mortuza is the President of PEN Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Fulbright Alumni Association. He has contributed to education, research and publications at national and international levels.

ULAB authorities said they expect the university to advance further in education and research under his leadership.
