The government has decided to suspend class activities at all English medium schools operating under foreign curricula from March 9 until the government-declared Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

The decision was made at a meeting held today at the Secondary and Higher Education Division in Dhaka, according to a press release from the education ministry.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon chaired the session.

Officials at the meeting discussed the formulation of guidelines for English medium schools and regulations for coaching centres. Following consultations with representatives of foreign-curriculum schools, it was decided that all such institutions will suspend regular classes from March 9 until the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday period, which runs until March 26.

However, schools will be allowed to conduct compulsory examinations according to previously scheduled timetables, the release said.

The meeting also resolved that all coaching centres, including those catering to Bangla medium and English medium students, will remain closed during the same period.

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque and other officials attended the meeting, the release added.
