23 illegal shops demolished in Rajshahi

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) demolished 23 illegal shops along the footpath in New Market area of the city yesterday.

The shop owners were given notices thrice to take away their goods before the drive, said RCC magistrate Mortuza al Muhit who led the drive.

A local influential group used to collect Tk 5,000 to Tk 8,000 illegally every month as rent from the shop owners, he added.
