72-hour CNG-run auto-rickshaw strike in Dhaka from Oct 15

A section of CNG-run auto-rickshaw owners and workers has called a 72-hour strike from October 15 to press home their nine-point demand.

The Dhaka City CNG-run Auto-rickshaw Owners-Workers Sangram Parishad came up with the strike announcement at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka around 11:00am today.

While addressing the press conference, Alhaz Md Barkat Ullah Bhulu, convener of the parishad, read out a press release regarding the strike.

Their demands include:

  1. To impose ban on the CNG-run auto-rickshaws outside Dhaka and also on illegal auto-rickshaws inside the city.
  2. To control the commercial use of privately run CNG-auto-rickshaws.
  3. To stop commercial use of all unauthorised ride-sharing motorbikes and private cars.
  4. To arrange a parking place for the auto-rickshaws.
  5. To take effective measures for controlling muggers, dope gangs and other criminal groups.
