9-year-old house help dies 'falling' from rooftop

A nine-year-old domestic help died after she allegedly fell from the rooftop of a five-storey building in Khulshi Residential Area of Chittagong city early yesterday.

The deceased Sultana -- hailed from Comilla -- had been working at the house of one Altaf Hossain, a businessman, in the building for around three months. Altaf and his two brothers, who reside on different floors, are the owners of the building, said Officer-in-Charge of Khulshi Police Station Nizam Uddin.

Altaf's elder brother Wahed Hossain claimed that Sultana fell from the roof around 7:30am and was critically injured, the OC said.

Hospital sources said Sultana was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead around 8:30am. There were injury marks in her head and face.

Altaf and his family members fled following the incident and police detained the security guard and the car driver of Altaf for interrogation, said the OC.

The body was sent to CMCH Morgue for an autopsy, he added.
