Recruiting Asst Station Masters for Railway

Authorities to amend anomalous circular

Staff Correspondent, Ctg

The authority of Bangladesh Railway (BR) yesterday gave assurance to amend the recruitment circular for assistant station masters, published on October 30 last year, where the offered salary scale was lower than the existing one.

The assurance came from a meeting held between the railway high-ups, including Railway's Director General Amzad Hossain, and the leaders of the BR Station Master and Karmachary Union at Rail Bhaban yesterday.

The DG said he would try to amend the circular after taking the approval from the finance ministry by February 25, said Mokhlesur Rahman, president of the union.

The DG also gave assurance to meet other demands of the union including providing standard uniform and upgrading the rank of the station masters from grade three to two, he further said.

Contacted, Habibur Rahman, additional director general (operation) of BR, said the demand of the union to amend the circular was logical.

Mentionable, the leaders of the union on  Sunday held a press conference in Chittagong city demanding that the authority scrap the anomalous recruitment circular and republish it after correction within February 25.

In the circular the salary scale was mentioned Tk 4,700, whereas the existing scale is Tk 4,900 for the post.
