BCL protests renovation
Chittagong city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League has protested the Railway authorities' renovation work for European Club on BR's land saying that it will destroy glorious history of the anti-British movement.
In a statement signed by Imran Ahmed Imu and Nurul Azim Rony, president and general secretary respectively of the unit, said, "We want renovation of the club but it must not be done by erasing our glorious history of the anti-British movement."
Pritilata Waddedar, an associate of Master Da Surya Sen, along with a group of revolutionaries launched an attack on the club having a signboard that read "Dogs and Indians not allowed" on September 24, 1932, and afterwards Pritilata sacrificed her life by swallowing potassium cyanide before the club.
The BCL also condemned the incident of "humiliation" of two journalists of ATN News by railway officials on Tuesday while they were collecting information about the renovation work at the club.
Moqbul Ahmed, general manager of BR (East zone), denied allegation of any misbehaviour.
