BIWTA scraps lease of Sadarghat launch terminal

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) yesterday scrapped a lease for the Sadarghat launch terminal in the capital.

The decision came as the men of the lease holder allegedly harass passengers, said BIWTA Chairman Commodore Mohammad Mozammel Haque.

"We earlier received allegations of harassing people including collecting additional fare from passengers and found it to be true," he said.

From now on, the BIWTA will run the terminal by itself to avoid harassment, he added.
