College student killed in Tangail road crash

Eight people were killed, including a college student, and 19 others injured in road accidents in six districts yesterday and on Friday.

In Tangail, Ruhul Amin, 20, -- a first-year honours student of Mirzapur University College -- was killed and his cousin injured when a bus ran them over while they were standing with a motor cycle at Mirzapur bypass on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila yesterday.

Ruhul was the son of Rafiq Miah of Chakleshawar village. The injured Sumon Miah, 21, was admitted to the Kumudini Hospital.

Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee. The body was handed over to the family and a case was filed in this regard.

In Dinajpur Sadar, an elderly couple was killed and 15 people were injured when a bus rammed their motorcycle and hit a roadside tree in Laxmitola area yesterday.

The deceased were Dinesh Chandra Roy, 64, of Borobaul village and his wife Shamlota Roy. Dinesh was a teacher of Joydevpur High School in the upazila.

In Biral upazila of the district, Abdul Motin, 30, of Pipolla village was killed when a truck hit a three-wheeler in Dewandighi village on Dinajpur-Bochaganj road yesterday.

In Chapainawabganj, Mohammad Nasim, 50, of Kansat village was killed and his co-rider injured when his motorcycle hit a parked truck in Pukuria village of Shibganj upazila on Friday night.

In Mymensingh, Wazed Ali, 75, of Kuripara village was killed when a bus crashed him while he was crossing Mymensingh-Haluaghat road in front of Phulpur Upazila Health Complex yesterday.

Protesting the killing and demanding speed-breaker, locals put a barricade on the road for half-an-hour.

In Sirajganj, Korban Ali, 45, of Khaduli village was killed as a truck rammed his motorcycle in Shamolipara bus stand area in Ullapara upazila yesterday. He was the headmaster of Lahiri Mohonpur High School.

In Bagerhat, Pulin Bepari, 47, of Pollimangle village was killed and two people were injured when his motorcycle collided head-on with a van on Rayenda-Tofalbari road in Uttar Kadamtola village of Shoronkhola upazila yesterday.
